Heritage Group Visit Newhaven

As part of our Citizenship trips, the Heritage Group walked in perfect sunshine to Newhaven Harbour, stopping off at the Old Chain Pier and Starbank Park to discuss their role in the history of the fishing industry and the areas’ colourful past. The group sampled the local fish and chips before exploring the harbour for signs of land reclamation. They used photos from the past to piece together the development of the harbour wall. After this we walked through the historic streets of Newhaven, recalling the lives of past fishwives and fishermen, and visited Victoria Primary School where we were shown artefacts from their Newhaven Heritage Museum.
